Neuro Linguistic Programming ( NLP )

NLP is the abbreviated form of the somewhat dauntingly named school of psychology called Neuro Linguistic (to do with language) Programming. The meaning of this expression is actually quite simple. It refers to how our nervous system (neurology) can be programmed by the language that we use. "Language" has a wide and important meaning in NLP referring not only to the spoken word, but also to the words that we use when we are thinking and/or feeling, and to our body language i.e. how we hold our bodies. Body language also affects how we are processing information and hence the conclusions that we arrive at, either at the conscious or sub/un- conscious level. It is also the case that your neurology (nervous system) will influence the (body) language that you use and this will affect how you think and feel about yourself and your life.

NLP also concerns itself with the relationship between the conscious mind and the sub/un conscious. Very often the conscious mind wants to achieve an outcome. This desired outcome can be experienced as difficult to achieve as the sub/un- conscious mind often has its own valid (but often outdated) reasons for maintaining the current approach or behaviour. Our job in helping people to achieve the desired outcome is to work together with their conscious and sub/un- conscious mind to facilitate the desired outcome.

NLP also works around "modelling excellence". If you want to be the best that you can be, model what works for others or what you are doing successfully in other areas of your life where you are happy with your results.
