Dr Derek Mowbray
BA, MSc, MSc(Econ), PhD, DipPsych, CPsychol, CSci, FIHM
Derek Mowbray, Psychology Director of Organisation Health and leading authority on preventing stress in the workplace, has a unique combination of management and academic credentials with a special interest in organisation health psychology which aims to harmonise the relationship between organisations and their workforce.
His specialties are building organisation-wide Positive Work Cultures, adaptive leaders and effective managers.
His approach is to use cultural and behavioural influences that build commitment, trust and engagement and linking these to his models of organisation development and personal performance. His techniques include problem focused coaching, cognitive coaching, group work and consultancy.
Professor Mowbray combines the unique features of working on the big picture as a strategist as well as facilitating effective leader and manager performance.
Derek Mowbray is a Chartered Psychologist and Scientist, with a doctorate in leadership. He combines applied academic research with a career as a leader in ground breaking organisations, including OrganisationHealth, one of few services assisting organisations with the primary prevention of psychological distress at work.
He is a visiting Professor of Psychology at Northumbria University, and works for the European Commission as an Independent Technical Expert focusing on assessing health services. Over the years he has advised the UK Government, the Irish Government, the Governments of the USA, New South Wales and New Zealand on issues relating to the application of research into practice.
His current clients include Roche, the Bank of America, the London School of Economics, Abbey Life. He is currently working on a new Code of Conduct for Healthcare Management – an initiative supported by the BMA, RCN, BPS, MiP, The Health Foundation, the Department of Health, and sponsored by the Institute of Healthcare Management.
